A new leadership has emerged for the Bayelsa State Chapter of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) Alumni Association, with Reverend Obegha Oworibo, mni, elected as Chairman.
Rev. Oworibo was elected during the Institute’s January 2026 meeting held at the Conference Hall of the Office of the Head of Service, State Secretariat Annex 6.
Speaking shortly after his election and inauguration, Rev. Oworibo expressed his readiness to work harmoniously with fellow alumni to ensure that the Association gives back meaningfully to society, in line with the high-level training they received at the Institute.
The former Head of the Bayelsa State Civil Service, alongside Mrs. Biobelemoye Charles Onyema, mni, also the former Head of Service and now Treasurer/Financial Secretary of the Association, urged members to remain at the forefront of efforts to build a stronger and more vibrant body that would accelerate productivity and efficiency, particularly within government circles.
He also called for sustained support for the Association and its activities in the state, noting that such support was crucial to justifying the confidence reposed in the newly elected executives.
Rev. Oworibo expressed appreciation to members for the confidence shown in him, assuring them that he would live up to expectations.
He used the opportunity to extend heartfelt condolences to the Governor of Bayelsa State, His Excellency, Senator Douye Diri, the Ewhrudjakpo family, and the Prosperity Government on the sudden passing of the Deputy Governor, His Excellency, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, Ph.D.
Earlier, the outgoing Chairman of the Association, Dr. Peter Singabele, mni, also a former Head of the Bayelsa State Civil Service, thanked members for the peaceful and cordial working relationship enjoyed during his tenure.
He expressed gratitude to members for the successful inauguration of the new executive council led by Rev. Oworibo, whom he described as a distinguished civil servant who made significant contributions before retirement.
Dr. Singabele expressed confidence that the new Chairman would lead the Association to greater heights.
He further advised members to remain committed to the activities of the Association and to collaborate with government in promoting synergy, strong work ethics, and societal development.
Also speaking, the Bayelsa State Head of Service, Dr. Wisdom Ebiye Sawyer, mni, who emerged as Secretary of the Association, described the AANI Bayelsa State Chapter as a think-tank organisation that partners with government to fine-tune policies, programmes, and projects.
He noted that the revival of the Association in the state would positively impact the developmental efforts of the Prosperity Government.
Dr. Sawyer further disclosed that AANI Bayelsa, which initially operated as a local branch under Rivers State, has grown to 23 members, with plans to reach out to alumni serving in the military and paramilitary formations within the state to boost its membership.
