Recognizing the importance of keeping pace with this digital revolution, the Bayelsa State Government, through the Ministry of Information, Orientation, and Strategy, established the New Media Department on March 6, 2012. This forward-looking step was aimed at ensuring that the government remains connected with the people by leveraging modern platforms of communication to spread timely and accurate information.

The New Media Department serves as a dynamic hub for the prompt gathering, verification, and dissemination of information through various social media channels. With the growing influence of platforms like Facebook, Twitter (X), Instagram, and others, the department ensures that government messages, updates, and engagements reach citizens directly and in real time. This approach has made governance more open and interactive, providing a channel where people can both access information and engage with the government conveniently.
