The department is regarded as one of the liveliest arms of the Ministry, serving as the visual and historical memory of the Bayelsa State Government. It essentially maintains video and pictorial archives that document the journey of the government from its creation to date, functioning as a vital repository for reference and record-keeping. By preserving this wealth of audiovisual material, the department not only safeguards the government’s legacy but also provides credible resources for research, documentation, and future generations. Its role as a custodian of history makes it an indispensable unit within the Ministry of Information, Orientation, and Strategy.

Beyond preservation, the department is also charged with the crucial responsibility of carrying out public orientation and enlightenment campaigns.
