Governor Diri Directs introduction Of Scrabble tournament in Secondary Schools.

The Bayelsa State ‎Governor, His Excellency, Senator Douye Diri has directed the introduction of Scrabble tournament among secondary schools in the state.
The ‎Governor gave the directive at the closing ceremony of the 6th Governor Douye Diri National Scrabble classic at the DSP Alamieyeseigha memorial banquet hall in Yenagoa.
‎While congratulating the Chairman of the Scrabble Association of Bayelsa State, Mr. Daniel Alabrah, for hosting the tournament for the 6th time in the state, Governor Diri stated, “Today, I’m very happy to hear the strides that this competition has made in our country and beyond, and so, I like to appreciate the leadership of the Scrabble federation, both national and in the state, and all of you who have made this game interesting.
‎This is a game that I will personally recommend even for our secondary schools, because it is also very educative and makes you think strategically. This is one sport that we will continue to support as a government.
‎Yes, the prize money is important, but what is more at stake here is that, we are promoting a game that makes your brain to be sound, occupies your time positively and makes you see things from a different perspective
‎On behalf of the good people of Bayelsa State, I am happy to be part of you in this closing ceremony for the 2026 edition,” Governor Diri stated.
‎At the end of the 2 days tournament, Adulmumuni Jimoh won the master category with a cash prize of Two Million Naira with others also winning various prizes in different categories.
‎Also, One Million Naira each was awarded to 9- year old Funwei Elizabeth Fun-ere from Akeddei community in Sagbama Local Government Area and 7-year old Yusuf Abdulsalam from Kwara state, for their outstanding performances in the board game.
‎Other dignitaries at the closing ceremony include, Hon. Oboku Oforji, member representing Yenagoa/Kolokuma-Opokuma federal constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Daniel Igali, Commissioner for Sports Development and other members of the state executive council, Mr. Irorodamie Komonibo, acting Chief of Staff, Government House, Mr. Gowon Toruyouyei, Deputy Chief of Staff, Deputy Governor’s office, Engr. Bright Idahosa, President of the Nigeria Scrabble Federation, other top government officials and stakeholders of the Scrabble community.
