The Bayelsa State Governor, His Excellency, Senator Douye Diri, has said that the state government will procure electricity meters to ensure transparent and accurate billing for power supplied from the state’s gas turbine to residents of Yenagoa and its surrounding communities.
The Governor disclosure this during the 192nd Executive Council Meeting held at the EXCO Chambers, Government House, Yenagoa
The Governor noted that government is aware of concerns raised by residents over bulk electricity billing and assured that the metering initiative will address the issue and guarantee fair charges for power consumed.
Governor Diri further explained that although the power turbine belongs to the State Government, however, power distribution network is managed by the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company (PHED).
He noted that the state government and PHED are working in partnership to ensure efficient power distribution across the state.
He therefore, appealed to residents who are yet to be connected to the power supply to remain patient, assuring that efforts are being made to extend electricity to every part of the state.
