Governor Diri Commends Oforji As He Commissions Polo Bridge Project In Yenagoa

The Bayelsa State Governor, His Excellency, Senator Douye Diri has commended the member representing Kolokuma-Opokuma Federal Constituency at Representatives, Hon. Oboku Oforji for the constituency bridge project constructed at Opolo community in Yenagoa local government area of the state.
The Governor made the commendation while Commissioning the bridge project at Polo Community in Yenagoa.
Governor Diri while commending the federal law maker also approved the construction of a road linking the Opolo to the Glory Drive land in Yenagoa stressing that it was very rare for a lawmaker to undertake such expensive project.
He said: “It would have taken your full tenure and even more to complete a project like this. So I appreciate Honourable Oboku for remembering his people, because they say charity begins at home.”
Reacting to an appeal to intervene in the lingering dispute between the community and Okutukutu Edepie, the governor urged the communities involve to maintain their peace for the sake of development.
“It is good for communities to be at peace. It is also a function of the leadership of the community to keep the peace, and I believe that we have a good leadership in Opolo community. I implore you to maintain the peace.”
In his remarks, the paramount ruler of the Opolo Community, HRH Inia Nengibo, Ogbogbo XII, said the project aligned with the agenda of the governor’s Prosperity Administration, especially in the area of urban renewal.
He appealed for the construction of a 2.5km road to link the bridge to the new Yenagoa City for improved socio-economic activities in the community and environs.
“The road will improve commerce, improve security and generally create easier movement of people. We are grateful for your magnanimity in recognising our community,” the paramount ruler said.
Also speaking Hon. Oboku noted that the project was designed to connect the island communities, improve accessibility, enhance security and promote the socio-economic development of the people of Opolo community
“It is a project that will positively impact lives and stimulate economic activities within our community. My primary responsibility is to make laws and policies for the benefit of the people of Nigeria, especially my constituents.
“As a young boy, I remember that my people were praying for government to build a bridge across this creek. Now that I have the privilege, I took the decision to construct this bridge. I am excited today and I am grateful to the governor for his support so far.”
In a goodwill message, the Senator representing Bayelsa Central in the Senate, Dr. Konbowei Benson, said the project complements the governor’s infrastructure development and urban renewal efforts.
He urged the people of Opolo to continue to partner with the state government in order to enjoy the dividends of democracy in their community.
