The Sagbama Local Government Council, Bayelsa State, has distributed 12,000 notebooks to pupils across 60 primary schools in the Local Government Area.
Speaking during the ceremony, the Chairperson of the Council, Mrs. Alice Tangi Allen, noted that the gesture was to underscore the importance of education in transforming lives and achieving excellence. She described education as a powerful tool that opens doors of opportunity, broadens perspectives, and empowers individuals to reach their full potential.
“The power of education is so mighty that no foe can alienate it, no nepotism can enslave it, no censorship can hide its light, no regime can monopolize its truth, no language can limit its reach, no distance can separate its bond, no failure can reduce its worth, no tradition can bind its progress, no oppression can silence its voice, and no ignorance can undermine its power,” she stated.
Mrs. Tangi stressed that education must be given pride of place in the policies and programmes of the LGA Council. She added that the Prosperity Notebooks represent a step toward a brighter future where knowledge and creativity know no bounds. She therefore urged Headteachers to ensure that the twelve thousand Sagbama Prosperity Notebooks are properly and fairly distributed to all pupils, warning that any deviation would defeat the essence of the exercise.
The Chairperson also admonished teachers to use their acquired knowledge productively and to always prioritize the growth of their pupils. She advised pupils to make good use of the exercise books, take their studies seriously, stay focused, and shun distractions such as cultism and other social vices. She further charged female pupils to avoid attitudes that could lead to early pregnancy, noting that such could derail their dreams and destroy their aspirations.
Responding on behalf of the schools, the Chairperson of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Sagbama Local Government Area, Mrs. Akadah Emomotimi, applauded the initiative, describing it as the first of its kind in the Council.
The ceremony was witnessed by the Vice Chairman of the Council, Hon. Sufade Jefferson Tobi; the Leader of the Sagbama Local Government Legislative Arm, Hon. Mrs. Diepreye Roseline Robinson Yankee; the Majority Leader, Hon. Mrs. Ayakpoere Agai; Principal Officers of the Council; Headteachers from various schools; and other dignitaries.
