Yenagoa, Bayelsa State – In commemoration of the 2025 International Day of Peace, the Rotary Action Group for Peace, Bayelsa Branch, on Saturday organized a symbolic Peace Walk through the streets of Yenagoa with the theme “Act Now for a Peaceful World.”
The walk commenced at Tombia/Etegwe Junction and terminated at the Opolo Roundabout, drawing participation from Rotary Clubs across Yenagoa, Rotaractors, and members of the Bayelsa State Peace Architecture.

Carrying placards with inscriptions such as “Don’t Just Talk Peace, Work It,” “Peaceful Heart, Peaceful World,” “Love Thy Neighbor,” and “In a Divided World, Unity is an Act,” participants promoted messages of peace, love, and unity.
The day’s highlight was the commissioning and unveiling of a Rotary signpost at the Opolo Roundabout, performed by District Governor-Elect Chibueze Anthony Olikagu, symbolizing Rotary’s lasting commitment to peace, unity, and community service in Bayelsa State.
Speaking at the event, Rotarian Mabel Oki emphasized that peace is not merely the absence of conflict but the presence of justice, understanding, and cooperation.
“Building a peaceful society is a collective responsibility. Together, we can create environments where peace thrives,” she said.
Through the Peace Walk and related activities, the Rotary Action Group for Peace reaffirmed its mission to educate, engage, and empower communities for peacebuilding. The initiative reflects Rotary’s global commitment to advancing peace by providing resources, training, and collaborative opportunities for lasting impact.
The event successfully promoted unity, social cohesion, and collective responsibility in Yenagoa, further demonstrating Rotary’s vision of building a more peaceful world.
