The Commissioner for Health Professor Seiyefa Brisibe has announced that the age-long abandoned “Oporoma Referral Hospital”, in the heart of Southern Ijaw Local Government Area, in Bayelsa State, is to be commissioned on the 20th of April 2026.
Professor Brisibe explained that the Commissioning ceremony is expected to be performed the by the former Vice President Professor Yemi Osibanjo who is on an official visit to the state.
The Commissioner explained that, inline with the ASSURED Prosperity agenda, the Oporoma Referral Hospital facility has been transformed into a fully functional and large healthcare center, restoring hope and confidence among residents who have long yearned for accessible and quality medical services in the coastal areas.
He expressed appreciation to the Governor, His Excellency of Senator Douye Diri, for the swift approval for the remodeling and upgrade of the Hospital, in the coastal region, making marks a defining moment in the State government’s unwavering commitment to revitalizing the health sector and improving the well-being of the people.
He noted further that bringing the project to completion, the State government has not only fulfilled a critical promise but has also demonstrated a proactive approach to sustainable development and inclusive governance.
The milestone, according to him, underscores the Ministry’s resolve to bridge healthcare gaps, particularly in underserved and riverine communities, where access to medical care has remained a persistent challenge.
The Health Professor therefore encourage the good people of Southern Ijaw local government to come out en-masse for the Commissioning of the health facility and as well attend the free medical outreach as part of activities marking the 6th Anniversary of the Prosperity Administration of the Government of Senator Douye Diri.
