The Commissioner for Information, Orientation and Strategy, Hon. Ebiuwou Koku-Obiyai, has expressed the state government’s willingness to partner with relevant institutions to enhance human capital development in the state.
The Commissioner made this known while receiving the newly appointed Dean of the Faculty of Nursing, Federal University Otuoke, in her office in Yenagoa.
Hon. Koku-Obiyai described the establishment of the Faculty of Nursing at the Federal University Otuoke as a timely opportunity for the training of more nurses and other related health professionals to meet the growing needs of the populace.
An accomplished nurse herself, the Commissioner recalled the long-standing calls for the creation of more nursing institutions to adequately serve the people.
She reiterated that nursing education provides a strong foundation for effective human management and assured the Dean of her support in her personal capacity and on behalf of the state government where possible.
Earlier, the Dean of the Faculty of Nursing, Federal University Otuoke, Prof. Mrs. Khadijat Musa Toyin, explained that her visit was to present herself and seek the support of the Commissioner and the state government for the successful growth of the faculty.
Prof. Khadijat stated that her vision is to produce world-class nurses who would be globally recognised for excellence and professionalism.
She also disclosed plans to embark on extensive sensitisation programmes within communities to create awareness about the faculty.
Present at the visit was a frontline nurse, and a retired permanent secretary Mrs. Philomena Aladei.
