The Bayelsa State Government, through the State Education Development Trust Fund (EDTF) has distributed science equipment, and instructional materials to public schools in the state.
The distribution ceremony took place at the Ministry of Education premises in Yenagoa.
The aim is to enhance teaching and learning of science subjects and as well encourage students interest in scientific studies and technical skills in education.
In his remark, the Executive Secretary of EDTF, Prof Ebimieowei Etebu, emphasized the need for more investments in youths through proper and quality education to equip them face societal challenges as future leaders of the State.
He underscored the importance of education as the foundation for societal growth and reaffirmed EDTF’s commitment to equipping students to become future innovators and leaders.
Also speaking, the Chairman of the state Education Development Trust Fund, Bayelsa State (EDTF) Board, Chief Fidelis Agbiki, described the equipment as vital tools for unlocking students potential.
He warned school administrators against diverting the resources and materials assuring that the EDTF will closely monitor their usage.
The state Commissioner for Education, Dr. Gentle Emelah, commended the management of EDTF for its contributions, stating that the initiative will significantly boost science and technology education in Bayelsa State.
He called on principals of the benefitting schools to make effective use of the resources to complement government efforts in providing the required standard in education.
Other speakers, including Hon. Dr. Daniel Charles, Chairman of the House Committee on Education, Bayelsa State House of Assembly and Mrs. Bekere Zuokumor, Director of Secondary Education in the Ministry of Education, lauded the EDTF for its impactful interventions and called for the expansion of the intervention to accommodate more rural Schools.
Responding behalf of the benefitting Schools, Mr. Ibegu Robins, Principal of Government Model Secondary School Ogbia, assured that the equipment and learning materials will be effectively utilized for the advancement of science and technology education in the state.
Equipment and materials distributed included, agriculture tools, biology, chemistry and physics laboratory equipment, one hundred drawing studio desks and chairs for five Technical Colleges, customized books, dairies and registers, marker pens for white boards, cartons of chalks, packs of pen and pencils and lots more.
