The Wife of the Bayelsa State Governor, Her Excellency, Dr. Mrs. Gloria Diri, has called on parents, caregivers, and guardians of children and wards in the state to make them available for the upcoming Measles-Rubella Vaccination exercise.
Dr. Mrs. Diri made the call while flagging off the 2026 Measles-Rubella Vaccination Campaign in Yenagoa. The Bayelsa First Lady noted that measles and rubella are dangerous diseases that spread rapidly from person to person, especially among children, causing convulsions, blindness, brain damage, and even death.
She therefore added that the Measles-Rubella vaccine helps protect children aged 9 months to 14 years, who are in their vulnerable stage, against these dangerous diseases. Dr. Mrs. Diri commended the State and Federal Governments, UNICEF, and other partners for their collaboration and commitment, noting that the campaign, which is integrated, will also include other vaccines such as malaria vaccines, papilloma vaccines, routine immunization vaccines, and others for all eligible children.
Earlier, the State Commissioner for Health, Professor Seiyefa Brisibe, expressed joy over the event and noted that the Measles-Rubella Vaccination exercise is another strategic plan to increase the life expectancy of Bayelsans. He reiterated the Ministry’s commitment to providing accessible, affordable, and quality healthcare services to the people.
In their separate goodwill messages, the WHO, Bayelsa State Traditional Rulers Council, and the Primary Healthcare Board all spoke on the need for collaboration, the importance of the vaccination campaign, and urged frontline health workers and stakeholders to be proactive in service delivery.
