Bayelsa State on Monday, 16th February, 2026, received the Torch signalling the commencement of the 2026 Niger Delta Games scheduled to hold in Benin City, Edo State. Consequently, Yenagoa came alive as the Torch for the 2nd Niger Delta Games was received at the Samson Siasia Sports Complex.
The Bayelsa State Governor, His Excellency, Senator Douye Diri, who was represented by the Commissioner for Sports Development, Mr. Daniel Igali, at the reception ceremony, commended the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) and Dunamis Icon Limited for initiating the region’s first multi-sport festival, placing the Niger Delta firmly on the map for sporting excellence.
He noted that Team Bayelsa is poised to compete for the title in Benin City from February 20th to 26th, 2026. He further explained that the Torch symbolises unity, friendship and healthy competition among the nine participating states, expressing optimism that Team Bayelsa will excel at the competition.
