A five-day NFF-D Licence Coaching Course for grassroots coaches in Bayelsa State has commenced in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital.
The course, which runs from 11th to 15th March, 2026, is taking place at the Golden Tulip Apartments and Resort, Onopa, Yenagoa. The programme is organised by the Prosperity Cup in collaboration with the Bayelsa State Football Association.
The training is coming barely two weeks after the FC Barcelona/Prosperity Cup International Coaching Clinic held in the state, further demonstrating the commitment of the organisers towards the development of grassroots football.
The five-day programme is coordinated by the Technical Director of the Nigeria Football Federation, Augustine Eguavoen, alongside Edema Fuludu, Peggy Ubenye Ulu, Monday Odigie, and other seasoned football instructors.
Chairman of the Bayelsa State Football Association, Barr. Porbeni Ogun, represented by Mr. Zuzu Ebimotimi, Head of Secretariat, Prosperity Cup, who also doubles as Chairman of All Stars International, Yenagoa, stated that the programme reflects the vision of the FA and the Prosperity Cup to see Bayelsa coaches compete favourably at the global level.
He urged participants to take full advantage of the opportunity, noting that the course marks the beginning of greater achievements for grassroots coaches in the state, adding that obtaining the NFF-D Licence certificate will give them an edge among their peers.
Also speaking, Director-General of the Prosperity Cup, Mr. Ono Akpe, represented by the Head of Governmental Affairs and Community Relations, Prosperity Cup, Rev. Vincent Dowell, said the programme is timely considering the rapid growth of grassroots football in Bayelsa State.
He assured that the organisers will continue to provide opportunities for coaches to acquire modern coaching knowledge and skills, urging participants to take the training seriously.
In his remarks, NFF Technical Director, Augustine Eguavoen, explained that the D-Licence course is modular and serves as a prerequisite for coaches who intend to proceed to the CAF-C Licence course.
He added that the course is designed for beginners and must run for a minimum of 60 hours, noting that it is part of the Federation’s strategic effort to build the capacity of coaches across the country.
Some participants who spoke in separate interviews expressed satisfaction with the programme.
Anthony Fouye of Afini FC, who is also the Chairman of Bayelsa Grassroots Football Coaches Association, described the training as a valuable opportunity to learn and improve professionally.
According to him, the course is essential for any serious coach who intends to grow in the profession and will help raise the standard of football development in the state.
On his part, Mere Freeborn of Hope Alive FC said the coaching course will significantly improve the knowledge, technical understanding, and overall impact of coaches across Bayelsa State.
