The Ministry of Works and Infrastructure has conducted a facility tour for the Implementation Monitoring Committee (IMC) of the National Economic Council (NEC) for the South-South Geopolitical Zone to inspect key projects being executed by the Bayelsa State Government.
The Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, ESV Moses Teibowei, represented by the Director of Civil Engineering, Engr. Apurumelala Cliff-Eribo, led the committee on a two day working tour of various project sites. He was accompanied by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning, Mrs. Peremoboere Soroh, and the Director of Quantity Survey and Building Services in the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure, Mrs. Mabel Ozi.
The Commissioner noted that the Prosperity Administration has embarked on projects designed to create lasting impact and improve the quality of life of residents across the state.
Surv. Teibowei stressed that the government remains deliberate and committed to delivering the dividends of democracy to the people through strategic infrastructure development hence the massive impact.
Speaking on behalf of the NEC Implementation Monitoring Committee, the Deputy Team Lead, Mrs. Busayo Awotunde, expressed satisfaction with the quality and scale of projects being executed by the Bayelsa State Government.
Mrs. Awotunde particularly commended the government for constructing roads linking communities in the hinterland that were previously accessible mainly by water.
She said the inspection of the project sites, especially those in the hinterlands, provided the committee with first-hand evidence of the significant resources committed by the state government to infrastructure development.
According to her, the team was able to establish that the projects represent value for money.
“I see that the Bayelsa State Government is spending a whole lot. Much of the resources have gone down, and we see value for money.”
Mrs. Awotunde further assured the state government that Bayelsa would not be underreported, noting that the committee had seen the projects on ground and would base its report on verifiable evidence.
Earlier, the Team Lead, Dr. Michael Odere, explained that the committee’s mandate is to monitor how funds allocated to states are deployed to drive meaningful development and deliver projects that positively impact the lives of citizens.
He used the opportunity to commend the governors of the South-South states for the progress recorded in infrastructure development across the region.
Projects inspected by the committee included the completed and commissioned Angiama-Oporoma Bridge, the completed Angiama-Oporoma section of the Yenagoa-Oporoma-Ukubie Road and its spur to Otuan, and the ongoing Angiama-Eniwari Road.
Other projects visited were the ongoing Glory Drive Phase 3; the 30,000-capacity stadium under construction, Road 1 linking Airport Road at the LNG Junction, five other dual-carriage roads within the New Yenagoa City GRA, and the ongoing iconic nine-storey Secretariat Complex.
