Newly employed staff of the Bayelsa State Ministry of Information, Orientation and Strategy have been urged to take full advantage of the in-house training programme for effective performance as image makers of government.
Declaring open the two-week orientation programme for newly recruited Information and Public Relations Officers at the conference hall of the ministry in Ovom, Yenagoa, the Commissioner for Information, Orientation and Strategy, Mrs. Ebiuwou Koku-Obiyai, advised participants to approach the training with dedication and a commitment to excellence.
She explained that the exercise was designed to acquaint the new officers with the mandate, structure, and operational procedures of the Ministry, stressing that such knowledge is essential for effective performance in their respective postings.
Hon Koku-Obiyai noted that the orientation programme was at bridging the gap between knowledge and practice through a comprehensive two-week session that would enhance their capacity for effective public communication.
She further urged participants to take the sessions seriously, emphasizing that their roles was central to promoting the policies and programmes of the state government under the Prosperity Administration.
The commissioner, reminded them that Information and Public Relations Officers serve as the voice and image builders of government institutions and must, therefore, demonstrate professionalism, accuracy, and ethical conduct in the discharge of their duties.
Earlier, the Permanent Secretary, Mr. Ifiemeya Anthony Borisei, reminded the officers that they would eventually be deployed to various ministries and agencies, hence the need to be well-grounded in the operations of the parent ministry. He urged them to earn their confirmation and promotion through diligence and hard work and commending Mrs. Koku-Obiyai for her commitment to staff development, describing the orientation exercise as a vital step toward strengthening the Ministry’s information and communication machinery.
