…assures Izon Nation of neutrality
The Bayelsa State Governor, His Excellency, Senator Douye Diri, was among the dignitaries who attended the non-elective convention of the Ijaw National Congress (INC) at Ijaw House in Yenagoa.
Governor Diri, while addressing the audience, stated that the Bayelsa State Government is not backing any candidate in the INC election and urged the electoral committee to ensure a free, fair and transparent election. He also called on the aspirants not to see the INC election as a do-or-die affair, stressing that it should be viewed as a call to service.
“Today, we are here at this convention to chart a course for our collective future and to renew the ideals and aspirations that have sustained our people through generations.
Let me appreciate the outgoing President and members of the Executive Council of the INC for their sagacity and leadership. It is not a small feat for the Ijaw Nation to have secured a permanent seat at the United Nations Unrepresented Peoples Organization.
Since this race started, I have consciously and deliberately declined to meet with any of the contestants. Let me declare here that I have no candidate. As a father, all the contestants are well known to me, and I wish them all good luck.
I believe Mr. President and the electoral committee will ensure an open, transparent, free and fair election, and that the contestants will abide by the rules and guidelines,” Governor Diri stated.
Dignitaries at the event included the Speaker of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Abraham Ingobere, members of the State House of Assembly, former Deputy Governor Rt. Hon. Peremobowei Ebebi, Secretary to the State Government Prof. Nimibofa Ayawei, Chairman of Bayelsa State APC Hon. Warman Ogoriba, Acting Chief of Staff, Government House, Mr. Irorodamie Komonibo, commissioners, local government chairmen, INC President Prof. Benjamin Okaba, Chairman of the Bayelsa State Council of Traditional Rulers HRM Bubaraye Dakolo, other royal fathers, and top government officials.
