…Approves funds for 2025 training of Bayelsa resident doctors
…Reiterates commitment to training and retraining in the civil service
Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Douye Diri, was on Wednesday presented with the Champion of Residency Training Award by the Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD). The award was formally handed over during the 170th State Executive Council (Exco) Meeting held at Government House, Yenagoa.
Receiving the award, Governor Diri emphasized that training and retraining of the state workforce will continue to receive priority attention under his administration. He stressed that strengthening human capital development, particularly in the health and education sectors, remains crucial to achieving sustainable growth and improved living standards for the people of Bayelsa.
In his words: “For us as a state, if we must sustain our capacity to improve the standard of living of our people, the issues of health and education must continue to gain priority from this government.”
Speaking earlier, the President of NARD, Dr. Osunba Tope Zenith, highlighted some of the Governor’s landmark achievements in the health sector, which earned him the recognition. These include the domestication of the Medical Residency Training Act in Bayelsa State, the employment of over 500 health professionals, the annual payment of residency training funds, the establishment of Bayelsa Medical University, the Heom-Dialysis Center, the approval of eight additional courses at the College of Health Technology, Otuogidi, and the upgrade of the College of Nursing, Tombia, among others.
The Exco session had in attendance the Deputy Governor, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, the Chairman of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly Committee on Health, Hon. Oyinke Godbless, alongside other members of the State Executive Council.
