The Commissioner for Education Dr Gentle Emelah recently received the leadership of Opolo-Epie Community leadership led by His Royal Highness Eniya Moneyman, Paramount Ruler of Opolo Community.
The deliberations centred on educational advancement of the community with more emphasis on the Central Epie Secondary School.
Issues raised by the Community leaders include fencing of the school, better administration as well as security and some poor infrastructures.
In his response, Dr Emelah commended them for their leadership efforts to support Government in the development of their community while assuring the leaders of Government’s commitment to address the various issues raised.
” It is not news that there is an infrastructural overhaul ongoing in schools across the State and Government is poised to do more and is also concerned with the situation at Central Epie Secondary School Opolo especially, fencing in a bid to ward off miscreants and traders from the academic facility.
Government’s scarce resources may not be sufficient to handle all issues at a time, but we are genuinely touching every school as much as we can in Yenagoa the State Capital and even into other communities in the rural areas as just few months back, His Excellency, Sen. Douye Diri commissioned six new secondary schools in Yenagoa metropolis at Igbogene, Ekeki, Biogbolo, Akenfa, Ovom and Yenizue-Epie. Today, those schools are already full to capacity.
We are set to begin construction of more new schools at Azikoro Community, Edepie, among others in a bid to bring educational opportunities closer to our children,” added.
On issue of recruitment of security personnels to schools, the Commissioner hinted that the process is already near completion to have four security personnels recommended by the Community to be engaged by Government in each school across the State while on some administrative issues raised he promised it would be looked into and moving forward things will definitely take a better shape.
Once again, he commended the zeal of the Community Leadership by saying that, “in driving the development of the community, only such collaborative efforts can translate the visions of our founding fathers into reality for us to have the Bayelsa our future generations will be proud of.
