…………AS THE TRAINING IS FOR SENIOR SECONDARY SCHOOL THREE (SS3) STUDENTS OF THE TWELVE (12) GOVERNMENT MODEL SECONDARY SCHOOLS.
The training exercise formed a critical component of the 2025 SUMMER CAMP/HOLIDAY PROGRAMME at Ijaw National Academy (INA) Kaiama on Saturday, July 26th 2025, designed to provide SS3 students of Bayelsa’s Model Schools with a blend of academic reinforcement and vocational empowerment. The Summer Camp Programmes are institutional fixtures in Bayelsa State to deepen students’ practical preparation for WAEC, NECO, JAMB and life beyond school.
In a strategic move to bridge the gap between academic theory and real-world readiness, the Bayelsa State Ministry of Education, through the Directorate for Education Inspection and Policy Services successfully organized a practical Skills Acquisition Training for Senior Secondary School Three (SS3) students of the twelve (12) Government Model Secondary Schools in Bayelsa State.
This initiative is a testament that the Prosperity Government is committed to raising not just scholars, but self-sufficient and innovative young people. “The goal is clear, we want to produce graduates who can create jobs, not just seek for jobs,”
This initiative is a direct expression of Governor Douye Diri’s Prosperity ASSURED Agenda, which places functional, technical and entrepreneurial education at the center of youth development and sustainable growth.
At the heart of the programme was the hands-on training in the production of daily-use essentials. Students were taught how to manufacture:
Perfumes, Insecticides, Air Fresheners, Azal and Soap Making etc.
Under the guidance of skilled facilitators, students explored cost-effective production methods using locally available materials, hygiene and safety practices and basic entrepreneurial strategies. The training ignited remarkable enthusiasm, with many students expressing interest in developing micro-businesses from the skills acquired.
The 2025 edition aligns with broader state interventions such as the Bayelsa Youth Education & Skills Development Initiative (BYESDI) and the Bayelsa Youth Entrepreneurship Fund (BYEF), which aims to expand technical education access, support youth-driven enterprise and reduce dependency on government employment.
Delivering her remarks, Ms. Biboye Ogola, Director General of the Directorate for Education Inspection and Policy Services, emphasized the Ministry’s drive to embedded practical learning into secondary school education as a means of building confidence, competence and resilience among learners. “This programme is not just about learning a skill, it’s about giving our students the tools to thrive in a competitive world. We’re proud to be preparing
them not just for exams, but for life,” she stated.
The training event was well attended by top Education stakeholders across the education sector, including:
Ms. Biboye Ogola, Director General, Directorate for Education Inspection and Policy Services, Dr. (Mrs.) Stella Peremoboere Ugolo, Acting Executive Chairman of Teachers Training, Registration and Certification Board (TTRCB), Queen Josephine Ezonbodor Torru, Former Commissioner for Education and Principals of the Twelve (12) Model Secondary Schools among others. Their presence further underscored the strategic importance of the programme and reaffirmed a shared commitment to reimagining education delivery in Bayelsa State.
The Summer Camp Programme has earned recognition as a model intervention in the state, with over 1,200 students from Bayelsa’s 12 model secondary schools participating annually. Past editions have included modules on academic enhancement, digital literacy, leadership, sports, health education and now, a growing emphasis on vocational training and entrepreneurship.
As the Prosperity Government continues to roll out transformative programmes across the state, this initiative stands out as a clear demonstration of how policy, innovation and education can intersect to unlock the potential of Bayelsa’s youth.
